At Edgeworth Public School Preschool we create and maintain a safe environment by protecting the wellbeing of our children and promoting positive relationships between children, families and educators.
Child Safe Standards
The Child Safe Standards provide a benchmark against which organisations can assess their child safe capacity and set performance targets. The Standards provide tangible guidance for organisations to drive a child safe culture, adopt strategies and act to put the interests of children first, to keep them safe from harm
The 10 Child Safe Standards are:
- Child safety is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
- Children participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
- Families and communities are informed and involved.
- Equity is upheld and diverse needs are taken into account.
- People working with children are suitable and supported.
- Processes to respond to complaints of child abuse are child-focused.
- Staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe through continual education and training.
- Physical and online environments minimise the opportunity for abuse to occur.
- Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is continuously reviewed and improved.
- Policies and procedures document how the organisation is child safe.
We are among the organisations required under the Child Safe Scheme to implement the Child Safe Standards and must ensure our practices align with the requirements of the Child Safe Standards and use the Standards through their systems, policies and processes to continually improve their child safe capabilities.
For training and resources on the Child Safe Standards, and to request training sessions, please visit the Office of the Children’s Guardian website.

Please read the important information about prescribed medication at school. We also have school based procedures and the policy can be collected from the office.

Sun protection
Our preschool takes sun safety seriously and runs programs designed to make children aware of the damaging effects of the sun.Our preschool also has a responsibility to provide a safe environment for students and staff and this includes providing adequate protection from the sun throughout the year.
Edgeworth Public School Preschool is proudly a SunSmart school awarded by the Cancer Council. The SunSmart Program supports early childhood education and care services to develop and implement a sun protection policy that minimises children's and staff over-exposure to UV radiation and reduces the risk of skin cancer. As a SunSmart service you can be confident we are implementing an approved sun protection policy that meets the Education and Care Services National Law, Regulations and Quality Areas.
We have a comprehensive Sun Smart procedure in our procedure tab.
