Charlie, Our School Support Dog

Edgeworth Public School is fortunate to have Charlie, our much-loved support dog, as part of our learning community.
Charlie brings a sense of calm and connection to school life. He enjoys greeting students at the gate with a wagging tail, helping them begin and end their day in a positive way. In classrooms, Charlie enjoys lying quietly while students read to him, creating a relaxed atmosphere that encourages confidence and focus.
Research has proven that patting a dog can reduce stress levels. Charlie supports student wellbeing by helping children regulate their emotions, offering comfort when needed, and assisting those who may find separation from home or entering the classroom challenging. Walking to class with Charlie, alongside a teacher, often makes these transitions easier.
Charlie can also often be seen carrying his favourite toy for the day on his harness. The toy always links to a story that his handler shares with students in classrooms. This matching book and toy are a highlight for many children and make story time with Charlie an engaging and memorable experience.
